Verification (n.)

The process that schools use to confirm that information students list on their FAFSA is accurate. Students who are selected for verification did NOT do anything wrong. Students are usually selected for verification at random.

Pro Tip

Work with younger students? Host a SMART529 information night! Parents of younger students might be interested in learning about how to open up a savings account to begin saving for a college education. You may want to review the website with parents. Be sure to distribute the SMART529 brochures to parents that were included in your toolkit as well.
